Refunds, cancellations, and releasing a claimed region
What should happen to a region when an order is refunded — and how to communicate it so buyers stay confident.
Every exclusivity system eventually meets its first refund. If the region stays locked, you lose revenue. If it silently reopens, buyers feel cheated.
Release, but say so
The correct behaviour is to return the region to the open pool as soon as the refund settles, and to record the release in the ledger so the history stays honest.
- Refund settled: claim is released and the region shows as open again.
- Partial refund: the claim stands unless you refund the exclusivity component.
- Chargeback: treat as a refund and release, then review manually.
Publish this policy on the product page. A stated release rule removes the main objection buyers raise about paying an exclusivity premium.
